A manufacturer of robotics required an actuator to operate a clamp. One right hand and one left hand BTA® solenoids were needed to control the clamp's movement. The clamp opens and closes to pick up a wafer in a robotic assembly process.
The manufacturer had originally selected a 35 degree three ball race, standard rotary solenoid but required only 15 degrees of stroke. They experienced inconsistent performance because they were not using the optimal actuation stroke. Velocity control was important for clamping consistency. A BTA was selected to replace the 3 ball race style rotary. A customized shaft extension was added and longer than standard lead wires with terminals. As a result, the manufacturer now employs a reliable, well applied actuator for their precision robotic application.
