| Solenoids in Electronic Cash Registers |
A custom designed Open Frame Solenoid is used to open and close cash register drawers.
A signal from the electronic driver board within the Cash Register's computer instructs the solenoid when to pull-in, which in turn releases a latch A spring in the drawer then pushes the drawer open. The drawer is manually closed and relatches to lock closed. Although a simple application, the use of solenoids as door locks is perhaps the most common application.
The register manufacturer uses 6 different solenoids each with a different coil depending on the electric specifications of the installation. A universal design has been developed with a dual winding on the coil to allow a broader implementation of one design.
