Miniature Solenoid Selection
We offer an increasing number of miniature solenoids for today's space-conscious designers. Our smallest solenoid is now as small as 0.4 x 0.32 x 0.63 inches. Miniature solenoids are available in open frame, tubular, low profile and rotary designs to provide on/off operation. Magnetic latching models are also available.

We continue to pursue innovative ways to make ever smaller solenoids that are consistent with the quality and reliability you count on from Ledex Solenoids. Please contact us if you don't find what you need, or if you have a specialized design requirement.

All miniature models are suitable for battery operation. Selecting the appropriate solenoid in terms of force or torque and response time, the coil size (awg or resistance) must be made in conjunction with a battery set that will both provide the required length of service (number of solenoid cycles) and will provide adequate solenoid performance at the battery voltage representing its end of life voltage. To begin, determine the minimum voltage required for the solenoid to produce the specified force or torque for a particular coil resistance. Use this voltage to represent the end-of-life voltage of the battery set.

Refer to the manufacturer's data sheet to find the minimum, or end-of-life operating voltage per cell (typically this will be 1.0 volt for nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride batteries). The solenoid wire size must then be selected to operate based upon this voltage times the number of cells in series. (For complete details, refer to the Battery Powered Application Design Considerations link at left.)
