Matching actuation performance to application design |
For oscillatory, on/off or proportional rotary or linear operations, Ledex solenoids match or outperform more complex and expensive DC servos, stepper motors, and pneumatics.
Activated by low voltage DC input, solenoids can be used to provide instantaneous on-off actuation or smooth, variable positioning.
Like the weakest link in a chain, today's sophisticated industrial equipment is only as reliable as the individual components -and assemblies... including the actuation mechanisms that control valves, open shutters, release locks, and more.
Ledex solenoids play a critical role in a wide spectrum of new equipment designs. Ranging from robotics, laser shutters, and PC disk drive locks to high speed scanners, sterilizers, and ATMs, Ledex actuators provide discreet linear and rotary motion control that you can depend on without fail. |

Ledex solenoids are ideal for installations requiring: |
Compact, high torque/force-to-size |
Accurate, consistent performance |
Long, predictable life (+100 million cycles) |
High temperature environments |
High MTBF Ð reliable, repeatable, without degradation due to wear

Variable positioning actuation versus on/off |
Don't think of solenoids as simple on-off actuators. Our Ultimag®, BTA® and Soft Shift® variable positioning solenoids operate as smart as the controls that power them.
In a high-speed diverter application, the BTA actuator offers smooth acceleration to a user-set precise position. With minimal drive electronics, the BTA is a low cost , yet extremely reliable solution with a long +100,000,000 actuation life rating.
That's why designers are more frequently using our electrically-actuated solenoids in place of pneumatics and step motors.
For many automation processes, solenoids are the best actuation devices in terms of size, cost, simplified installation, and ease of use.
Combined with today's high-performance electronics, our rotary Ultimag and BTA (brushless torque actuators), and Soft Shift linear stroke solenoids provide the functional benefits ideal for precise variable positioning applications. |

Benefits of Ledex Variable Positioning Actuators |
Smooth, stepless motion even at slow speeds. Low speed operation is achieved by ramping the coil current up or down via PWM (typically provided by the customer) or direct analog control. Open loop controls are suitable. Closed loop feedback can be used to achieve repeatability and accuracy. |
Fail-safe return at power down |
Fast rotary/linear stroke with flat torque/force curve |
Manual override capability |
Fixed end-of-stroke points. End-of-stroke shock is minimized by the ability to operate slowly and by the use of non-metallic, end-of -travel stops. BTA actuator stroke restriction at either end of the stroke is permissible without performance trade-offs.
